Current System Status
February 3, 2026 - 2:38 pm
Channel Listings
There has been a lot of confusion and a lot of channel changing to try and keep things online at the best quality we can, so we just want to layout which channels each mountain top can expect to receive at this time. We do not have an ETA on repairs in Reno, so this list is to be treated as current until we have further information.
Shaffer Mountain Customers: You are receiving all channels listed under the "Channels" page with the exception of 4.2 (Comet) and 11.3 (Charge!).
Black Mountain Customers: You are receiving all of your normal channels as listed under the "Channels" page with the exception of 11.3 (Charge!). You also currently have the added bonus of receiving channels 4.1 (ROAR), 4.3 (AntennaTV), and 4.4 (Rewind).
February 3, 2026 - 10:26 am
System Update
Please excuse the temporary system wide outage this morning. We were replacing some crucial power equipment. All circuits have been restored.
Black Mtn Customers:
We have moved the temporary FOX/NBC channel to a higher resolution standard. You are also temporarily receiving channels 4-1, 4-3, and 4-4. You will need to rescan your television set for this to take effect.
January 30, 2026 - 11:30 am
Channel 5 In & Out
Good Morning, we've received reports of channel 5 (PBS) being down. We're receiving a strong signal from Reno, but the source transmitter is having some difficulties at this time. Once they resolve their issues your service should be restored without any further action. Thank you.
January 25, 2026 - 3:20 pm
Channel 11 & 21 Audio issue
Please excuse the brief interruption to channels 4, 11, and 21. It looks like the stuttering audio issue has been resolved. We'll keep monitoring it further to ensure it doesn't return. Enjoy the game!
January 23, 2026 - 2:03 pm
Black - NBC Audio Resolved
We've corrected an issue with there being no audio on 11-2 (NBC) for Black Mtn customers. The intermittent cutting of audio is still present on 11-1, 11-2, and 21-1. This is not from our system, but the signal we receive from Reno. We are still working to have this resolved.
January 23, 2026 - 12:10 pm
Temporary Channel Changes
This has been a very fluid situation and things have changed again. We think for the better, but please remember this is just a temporary change in order to keep channels on line during these extended outages.
Shaffer Mtn. Customers:
All channels have been restored. During the channel squish with KRNV and FOX to get things online, you have lost some sub channels, but the important channels are online and functional.
Black Mtn Customers:
You should now be seeing 11-1 (FOX), 11-2 (NBC), and 21-1 (KNSN). Please note that these are at a lower resolution due to the avenues we've had to take to get these channels back online. This is a temporary solution. In order to do so, we've had to remove channels 2-3 (ionTV) and 58-1 (KQCA) due to bandwidth restrictions. You can still view most of channel 58's programming on channel 3-1 (KCRA).
Additionally, we are aware of the delayed audio to video issue on channels 11-1, 11-2, and 21-1. From what we can tell at this time, this is present on the signal we're receiving from Reno. We are working closely with them to troubleshoot the issue and we're sure it will be resolved soon.
Thank you for your continued patience as we navigate around these issues and work to keep things online.
January 22, 2026 - 9:15 pm
Black Mtn Update
We have successfully restored FOX for Black Mtn users. This is at a lower resolution, we apologize, but as we station below it is only temporary until we can access the site. We have a plan in place to restore NBC in the same fashion. We are going to attempt to do so without temporarily dropping ionTV (2-3). When we do, this will also be aired in a lower resolution, but at least they'll be up!
Thank you again for your patience and thank you to Reno FOX for their diligent work in getting these channels restored.
January 22, 2026 - 8:56 pm
Channel Update
Due to an extended time frame for repair, Reno FOX has made some adjustments to get back on the air. As a result, we've lost some channels for the time being. This is not a permanent change, but rather a temporary situation to keep Channel 11 on the air while bigger repairs take place in Reno.
We have restored FOX and NBC (11-1 & 11-2) for Shaffer customers. Unfortunately, the channel shuffle didn't take place on Black remotely. We must visit the site to implement the changes and make some repairs. We are currently making plans to do so. We will let you know as soon as we can.
During this time, it looks like we no longer receive KNSN (21-1). We are working on a temporary fix in place to get FOX (11-1) working on Black, albeit at a diminished resolution. Just until we can successfully reach the site.
Shaffer customers, if you're still not receiving channels after these changes, please rescan your receiver.
Thank you for your continued patience, we will bring you more information as we receive it. Thank you.
January 20, 2026 - 8:01 am
Update:
Good morning, the FOX outage is still ongoing. Channel 8 (KOLO) for Black mountain customers is back to normal operation. Please reach out if you continue to experience issues.
January 19, 2026 - 11:39 am
Continued Outage
We continue to monitor the outage with FOX. The broadcaster has confirmed a component failure in their transmitter system and are working diligently to make repairs. We are currently working on any possible work arounds, but don't have an answer as of yet.
We are also continuing to work on a resolution to the poor signal level of KOLO for Black mountain customers. We appreciate your patience and will continue to provide updates as we have them.
January 18, 2026 - 5:20 pm
Update to the Update:
We've just returned from the mountain top, we apologize for the extended outages today. FOX is still down for both Shaffer and Black mountain customers. This issue is from the source and not our system. We will be monitoring this until service is restored.
We were able to reroute Shaffer KOLO to our VHF back-up. Unfortunately, we could not do the same for our Black KOLO transmitter. We will be monitoring that channel for it's receive issue to be resolved as well.
We made repairs to our 5 ghz system which resolved the issue with channels 3, 19, 21, 33, and 58.
Once again, we apologize for the interuptions today. As a reminded, you can find the current NFL playoff game on KCRA. KCRA is 3-1, but some Shaffer customers may still be receiving this channel on 19-3.
January 18, 2026 - 10:59 am
Update:
As far as we can tell from our remote monitoring, there is no issue with our equipment. Black mountain is not currently accessible, so we are awaiting to hear back from the stations in Reno to confirm if they are aware of any issues on their end. We are currently working on trying to get a work around in place for channel 8.
If FOX is not back online by this afternoon, please look for the Rams v Bears game on KCRA.
We apologize for the inconvenience and will keep you updated as we receive more information.
January 18, 2026 - 10:33 am
Channel Outages
We are looking into the outages of both KOLO and FOX. This is effecting for Shaffer and Black mountain customers. We will update you when we know more. Thank you.
January 16, 2026 - 12:37 pm
Improving Your Reception
Just wanted to spotlight a product that we think could be a great addition to many of our customers receive systems. This cheap filter, when installed in-line with your antenna, filters out-of-band frequencies. Most importantly, it filters out FM stations and cellular LTE signals. You don't have to live right near one of these transmitters to receive the benefit of this filter. It's cheap, it's very easy to install, and for almost all cases it should improve your viewing experience.
If you're experiencing degraded signals and one or two channels, but receiving the rest just fine, you could be experiencing RF interference at your location. This filter works best if installed before your pre-amplifier, but in some cases that's not possible and installing it after the pre-amplifier can have its benefits too! I live in city limits and this filter has worked wonders for my channel 8 reception from Black Mountain. (P.S. If you don't have a pre-amplifier installed in-line with your antenna, we very highly recommend that you do. We've included a link at the bottom for a recommended one of those.)
Some pre-amplifiers do come with out-of-band filtering as well, so double check if you're already running that protection. The pre-amp linked below comes with the filtering, so this tubular filter would not be needed!
Check it out and if you have any questions about this filter or your antenna system at all, feel free to shoot us an email at support@hl-tv.net. The link to the filter is below.
January 10, 2026 - 12:00 pm
Update!
We have completed repairs on the damaged data cable and all channels are in normal operating condition. Please excuse the extended outages on channel 19 for Shaffer customers. We were working on restoring the proper channel names and numbers for these channels. The attempt was not successful, so please continue looking for KCRA on 19-3 and KQCA on 19-4. We will continue working on resolving this issue.
Any new issues should be reported via phone or email. Thank you and have a great weekend.
January 10, 2026 - 8:50 am
Poor Channel Performance
Issues have been reported for several channels this morning. We've identified the issue and are currently en route to the site. We hope to have the issue resolved in the next few hours. Thank you for your patience.
January 9, 2026 - 4:45 pm
Guide Updates
Work on the guide channel has completed. The channel listings have been updated. You may notice a few channels show "No Listings Available" - we are working on finding a listing source for these channels. There isn't one published out of Reno at this time, so it will take a little digging to find a suitable substitute and get them working.
The guide channel sizing has been modified to improve legibility. Hopefully in the not so distant future we will be able to increase the resolution further and clean this channel up even more.
January 9, 2026 - 1:31 pm
Guide Channel Maintenance
We are currently performing maintenance on our guide channel. It will be offline during this period - we will have it back up as soon as possible. We are working to restore connection with our service provider and bring forth the channel updates, as well as improve the legibility of the channel due to its lower resolution.
January 8, 2026 - 1:21 pm
Updates for Shaffer Customers
In the past few days you may have noticed the channels below freezing / going out here and there. That was us working the problem and trying to come up with a solution. Just so you're aware the outages were intentional. We have not found a solution to the problem at this time. We've exhausted all of our remote troubleshooting avenues, so we are just waiting for the next few days of sunshine to clear up access to the mountain a little more. We hope to have a fix here soon, so we please looking for the 4 effected channels as they are listed down below and we will update you next time we have news. Thank you for your patience.
January 5, 2026 - 5:16 pm
Channel Update
We are currently aware of a problem effecting only certain Shaffer mountain customers. We have identified the problem and are working on a fix. In the meantime, if you are having trouble finding the following channels: GUIDE (19), KCRA (3), KQCA (58), and/or KCSO (33) you will find these channels in the 19 range. More specifically you will find them as:
19-1 : Guide Channel (Will not display channel text under channel number)
19-3 : KCRA (Normally 3-1)
19-4 : KQCA (Normally 58-1)
19-11 : KCSO (Normally 33-1)
None of these channels will display their normal text identifier under the channel number, but should be working normally. We hope to have a fix for this as soon as possible.
January 3, 2026 - 6:41 pm
Channel 8 - Scattered
We have received multiple reports of poor signal quality on Channel 8 for both Shaffer and Black Mtn users. After looking into this, we are sorry to say that our received signal on Black Mountain is scattered - likely due to weather. We attempted to reboot the equipment to verify it wasn't a hardware issue. That was the brief outage you may have noticed.
Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do at this time except wait it out. Thank you for your patience.
January 3, 2026 - 2:41 pm
Channel Hiccups
Restored an issue where Shaffer customers were receiving KCRA on a sub-channel of 19 rather than it's intended 3-1 location.
Restored service to Channel 2 for both Shaffer and Black mountain customers.
Thank you so much for the quick reports of trouble - it truly helps expedite the troubleshooting / repair process!
January 3, 2026 - 10:07 am
System Updates
Good Morning,
We apologize for the extended issues our system has faced over the holiday season. Between working with skeleton crews due to the holidays, and the unexpected gremlins caused by the heavy wet snow & inconsistent power / power surges - we faced many challenges in keeping our signals on-air and at an acceptable quality.
We are back to full staff and after extensive troubleshooting and repairs over the last two days, our network is back to normal operational capacity as well. (Almost). The only outstanding issue at the moment is PBS (Channel 5). It is down for both Black and Shaffer customers, but the issue is with the transmitter we receive the signal from. That channel should resume as soon as they correct the issue, without any further action from us.
Channel 8 has been restored for Shaffer customers. We apologize for that continued outage - but if we can offer some good news. We have rerouted it's feed from Black so that it no longer relies on the Microwave path. That means during inclement weather, although it may still experience signal loss - it should be at a much less noticeable rate. Please note - this only takes into account it's signal path to our transmitter and I'm talking in regards to our system wide channel issues. Your mileage may vary based on location, antenna, antenna health, and many other factors that go into the magical world of RF signal reception.
Channel 11 is in working order for both Black and Shaffer mountain customers. If you continue having issues, please email our support for assistance.
Channels 3, 19, 33, and 58 for Shaffer mountain customers has been restored.
Any ongoing issues or any new issues from this point forward, please reach out so we may assist in troubleshooting what may be happening. Thank you for your continued patience over the rocky holiday season and we hope you all had a wonderful holiday season!
December 28, 2025 - 3:00 pm
System Update - Channels 8 & 11
Channel 11 is back online and channel 8 is back online for customers pointing their antennas to Black Mountain communication site. We are continuing work to restore channel 8 for Shaffer Mountain communication site customers. There is no estimated time at this point for restoration however, work is continuing to restore the channel as soon as possible. Please keep checking back in for further updates. We appreciate your patience and understanding and are committed to bring you the best service possible.
December 27, 2025 - 6:10 pm
Loss of Channels 8 and 11 / Possible Damaged Receive Antenna
We have discovered that channels 8 and 11 have gone off the air. We believe that the receive antenna located on Black Mountain communication sites is damaged due to the recent winds and heavy snow. We are looking into what our options may be. Keep checking back for further updates.
December 24, 2025 - 10:17 am
Morning Outage / Channel Improvements
Please excuse the temporary outage this morning for some channels. We took the opportunity of a diminished microwave path to replace our aging and failing encoder. We will list the channels effected below. Moving forward you should see improved performance on these channels. Additionally, we improved a low volume issue on 3-1, 5-1 (on Black), and 58-1.
Shaffer Mountain Black Mountain
3-1 KCRA 2-1 KTVN
19-1 GUIDE 2-3 ionTV
33-1 KSCO 3-1 KCRA
58-1 KQCA 5-1 PBS
21-1 KNSN
34-1 GUIDE
58-1 KQCA
December 24, 2025 - 9:29 am
Signal Degradation
Good Morning, due to the weather conditions within the Honey Lake Valley our microwave path is experiencing severe signal degredation. This is affecting many channels for both Shaffer and Black customers. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do at this point but wait for conditions to improve.
December 24, 2025 - 9:23 am
Channel Guide
The channel guide server has been restored to service. While doing so, some back-end processes were broken so our updates to the channel listings have not taken effect. We've reached out to our service provide to troubleshoot this issue, but the holidays may delay it's execution. As soon as they help us resolve this hiccup, you should see all 28 channels reflected appropriately on the guide.
December 23, 2025 - 11:14 am
Guide Channel Outage
Good Morning, we are still working to restore the guide channel. It's a bit more than a simple reboot of the server. We're dealing with some corrupted data and trying to restore from a back-up. We will try to have it back online as soon as we can. While we have it down, we will be working to update the channel listings on the guide channel. So, at least it will come back in a better state than it was!
December 21, 2025 - 9:23 am
Guide Channel Down
It would seem that our guide channel server has experienced a hiccup and didn't reboot correctly. We will be getting out to our station as soon as we can. Please excuse the interruption in the meantime.
We've also had reports of Channel 8 experiencing stutters in both video and audio. We can not find any fault within our network. We will continue looking into this issue and work to find a resolution as quickly as we can.
December 11, 2025 - 9:28 am
Service Interruptions
Shaffer customers, please excuse the brief interruption to service this morning. This was a quick test as part of our preventative maintenance to ensure our equipment is holding up throughout the years.
Both Shaffer and Black customers should expect additional service interruptions this Saturday (12/13/25) as we replace some of our aging and failing equipment. We will try to make it as brief as possible, but ensuring it's done well and permanently resolves the issues is our primary concern.
December 4, 2025 - 7:57 am
Channel Change Updates: Part 2
Good Morning,
The final adjustments have been made and Black Mtn customers should now be receiving Nevada Sports network on 21-1 again. Please note, you must rescan your television set for this to take effect. You will no longer receive channel 4-1 on Black Mountain, but please remember that NBC is now 11-2.
We felt more customers watch Nevada Sports Network (21-1) than ROAR (4-1). We are working towards trying to obtain more broadcast license for Black to bolster our services to those customers. This is not guaranteed and will take time, but please know we're doing everything we can to do so.
You can see the updated list of channels on the "Channels" page of this website. Please note, it will take some time for the Guide Channel on channels 19/34 to reflect these changes.
Please continue reaching out if you experience issues or have questions. We are available by Email or Phone, but we do advise that support via email has the quickest response time.
Thank you
December 4, 2025 - 7:33 am
PBS Down
PBS is currently down. The problem is with the station we receive the signal from. Service should resume without the need of any action once they resolve their issue.
December 3, 2025 - 7:11 am
Channel Updates
Good Morning, some channels have been flipped around at our sources in Reno. Please rescan your television sets for it to take effect. You will now find KRNV on 11.2. I will have the channels page updated on this website later today and it will take some time for our guide channel to reflect these changes.
Black Mtn users. This is great news, KRNV will be much more consistent and reliable on Channel 11.2. During this move KSN did move to our Channel 4 signals, so you will not receive it at this time. Later today I will work to move it back over to Black, replacing Roar which you currently see on 4.1.
Thank you all for your patience and please reach out if you have any issues receiving the newly configured channels.
November 24, 2025 - 12:27 pm
Channel 8 Update
We have moved to our back-up signal for Channel 8 which has resolved the scattered signals for the time being. The issues with the previous signal originated in Reno. We are hoping our back-up signal continues to behave throughout the night as not to interrupt the game, but we will monitor it closely.
If our back-up signal becomes unusable we will have to revert back and make due with the intermittent scattered signals.
November 24, 2025 - 7:15 am
Channel 8 Degraded
Good Morning, Channel 8 is severely scattered for both Shaffer and Black customers. Our backup signal is experiencing the same issue. We are looking into the issue. We apologize for the inconvenience.
November 16, 2025 - 6:18 pm
Channel 4 Issues
We've received reports of intermittent stuttering and loss of audio on Channel 4 tonight. We've looked into the issue and we haven't found any faults within the system. All signals look great. It's likely to be a rain-fade effect on our receive signal from Reno causing a few bits to get scrambled here and there.
If you continue to have this issue and you've ruled out your own equipment, you can try the broadcast on Channel 3. Unfortunately, for Shaffer customers, you'll notice that Channel 3 is in standard definition. We'll keep an eye on the situation, but there's nothing we can do at this time.
November 16, 2025 - 10:08 am
Channel 8 Correction
Good Morning, we have rerouted the signal for Channel 8 for both Shaffer and Black customers. We're sorry for the interruption this morning. You may see an intermittent stutter, but our back-up signal is unusable at this point in time.
November 12, 2025 - 9:17 am
Channel 5 Update
Good Morning, all system checks have passed and there are no known issues with our service. Any issues you experience should be treated as a new incident and should be reported to us by phone or email.
November 11, 2025 - 7:51 am
Channel 5 Down
Good Morning, Channel 5 (PBS) is down for both our Shaffer and Black customers. We have verified that the issue stems from the station we receive our signals from. Service should resume as soon as they get back online.
November 10, 2025 - 5:53 pm
Channel 8 Corrected
Shaffer and Black customers, we have tweaked some levels to improve the performance of Channel 8. We hope to have eliminated the intermittent stuttering of the channel. It seems to have been successful, thus far. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you continue to experience issues with Channel 8, or any other channel for that matter!
Enjoy the game!
November 6, 2025 - 11:45 am
Channel 5 Down
We have concluded with our testing for today. There should be no further interruptions. Channel 5 is down however, for both Shaffer and Black customers. This is not a fault in our network, but with the provider we receive our signal from. We will monitor the situation and update you as we have information.
In the meantime, Black customers will see the "Roar" channel on 5-1.
November 6, 2025 - 9:00 am
System Restored
Good Morning, all channels are back online for both Shaffer and Black customers. Please excuse the intermittent interruptions this morning, as we worked to make repairs and assess the damages. There will be a few more blips here and there this morning while we finish verifying that there's no more less-than obvious issues from the storm. They should conclude shortly.
November 5, 2025 - 8:56 am
System Outages
Good Morning, we have a few channels down for both Shaffer and Black customers. Looks like we may have lost a receive antenna in the strong winds last night, but we have not been able to get up to the mountain to verify. We have rerouted channel 8 from Shaffer to get that channel back online, but please expect some degradation due to the present noise issue on Shaffer mountain.
Channel 5 (PBS) is down for both Shaffer and Black customers until we can make it up to the mountain and assess the damage.
We hope to have Channel 58 back online for both customers, later today.
Our microwave circuit is holding strong, even with the weather! We are experiencing some rain fade as expected, but it has not dropped our bandwidth below our operating threshold.
Thank you for your patience, we're sorry for the inconvenience, and we will update you as soon as we have more information.
October 27, 2025 - 6:13 pm
Channel 8 Reroute
We have rerouted Channel 8 to our backup circuit for both Shaffer and Black Mtn customers. We're looking to get away from the intermittent artifacting / degradation that we were experiencing. The backup route seems to be holding up well! We made sure to wait until commercial break to initiate the move to limit interruption to the game tonight.
Sorry for the inconvenience and enjoy the football game!
October 27, 2025 - 4:44 pm
Update to the Update!
Channel Change postponed to December 1st, according to Reno Fox. You will continue to find KRNV on channel 4-1.
Black Mtn Customers:
There were two issues we've been working to resolve today. The first being KOLO 8. For some reason it was populating on Channel 30 for viewers. This has been resolved. You will need to rescan your television set for it to take effect. Do it soon as not to miss Monday Night Football!
Channel 4 - KRNV was not working for black customers also. This has been fixed, but you will need to rescan for that to take effect as well, so one quick rescan and we'll be off for the races!
October 27, 2025 - 7:49 am
System Update
Good Morning, we apologize for the intermittent signal degradation last night for our Black Mtn Customers. The microwave path did experience some weather degradation with the passing storm, but it did hold up relatively well. We are looking into reports of some Black Mtn Customers not receiving Channel 4 at the moment.
Please note, the channel change from Reno Fox has not taken place yet. We are in talks with them and monitoring the situation to ensure our system updates to reflect the changes as soon as they make them.
Please continue calling in or emailing our support inbox if you experience any issues. Thank you.
UPDATE - 2:32 pm
Service has been restored to channel 4 for our Black Mtn. users; however, you must rescan your television set for the changes to take effect. Thanks for your patience!
October 16, 2025 - 12:27 pm
Black Mtn. Users - Channel 4 No Audio
Black Mtn. Users, please pardon the interruptions this morning. We are investigating an issue with the audio for channel 4. We hope to have this resolved as quickly as we can. You may see temporary interruption to other channels as we work to resolve this issue.
October 13, 2025 - 10:32 am
Channel 8 Update
Good morning! We have successfully migrated channel 8 away from the noise issue on Shaffer. Shaffer customers should have an uninterrupted signal for channel 8 moving forward. This was the final piece to our system redesign, so there is no expected level of degradation on our channels moving forward.
If you experience an issue or have signal degradation (outside of weather events) then please reach out to us, so we can look into it! We thank you for your continued patience and look forward to an uninterrupted viewing on Monday Night Football tonight!
September 29, 2025 - 11:56 am
Channel Changes!
Please be aware that some channels will be changing in October. This change is being done by the broadcasters themselves, not Honey Lake TV. You should not have to re-scan your television sets, just be aware of where to find the new channels! Channel 4 is moving from 4-1 to 11-2. Please see the image below for the channel changes.
These changes will take affect at 5 am on the 27th of October.
September 29, 2025 - 11:50 am
System Repairs
Today we performed maintenance on channels 8 and 11, during which brief and periodic interuptions were experienced on several channels. Please note that those interuptions were caused by our repairs and not the typical signal fade we've been experiencing. The microwave is holding up very well and we're very happy about it's current state and performance.
Components were changed for Fox 11 on Shaffer to combat the occasional video artifacting and the audio issues Shaffer customers were experiencing. We attempted to move Channel 8 onto the microwave, but were not successful. We will continue working towards a solution for this movement.
In the meantime, Shaffer customers will continue to experience occasional signal degradation from Channel 8.
September 20, 2025 - 4:49 pm
Channel 2 Restored for Shaffer Customers
If you are not receiving channel 2 at all, please rescan your receiver and the channel should populate correctly. If you're still not receiving channel 2, please email or phone in and we'll look into the issue for you. Thank you!
September 19, 2025 - 2:23 pm
Planned Outage Update
We have completed our repairs on Shaffer mountain and all channels are back online. If you're not seeing any channels, please rescan your receiver. If that doesn't resolve it, please reach out to us by phone or email.
The repairs went well and we're hoping that our microwave link is now fortified. You should see a more consistent signal on all channels with the exception of channel 8 for Shaffer customers. We don't have the bandwidth to transport that signal over from Black, so it's still falling victim to the noise issue on Shaffer. Please continue to stay patient with us and we work to get back to 100%.
Our hope is that football this Sunday will be a solid stream with no interruptions!
September 16, 2025 - 3:46pm
Planned System Outage
Our microwave path between Shaffer and Black will be down for maintenance this Friday, the 19th for several hours as we perform repairs and upgrades. During this time Shaffer and Black customers will experience the following outages:
Shaffer: Channels 2, 4, and 5.
Black: Channels 2, 3, 4, 5, 33, 34, and 58.
August 30, 2025 - 3:16 pm
System Update
Work has been completed on both Shaffer and Black mountain. We've made some great progress, but it's not a completely fault-free system just yet. We replaced / repaired some compromised lines and have successfully compressed our data through the microwave path even more. This gives us even more breathing room during times of path fade which means less packet loss. This translate to less frequent signal degradation for you, the customer.
We're still awaiting the arrival of some parts for our final repairs, so stick with us. There's a light at the end of the tunnel.
August 29, 2025 - 11:43 am
System Issues
We've just returned from our trip to Shaffer mountain. We have good news and bad news. The good news is that we have found an issue with our microwave path that we believe has been plaguing us with these issues. The bad news, whilst we run around gathering the parts and supplies we need, we won't be back up to Shaffer until tomorrow morning.
Breakdown of issues you will experience until our repairs tomorrow:
Shaffer Customers:
Channels 2, 4, and 5 will be in and out of signal and likely very poor signal when it is being received.
Channel 8 will be the same intermittent degradation as it has been. This is separate from the microwave issues, but may be improved once we solidify the microwave path.
Black Customers:
Channels 2, 3, 4, 5, 34, and 58 will be in and out of signal and likely very poor signal when it is being received. So many channels are affected because they are sent to Black via the microwave from Shaffer.
Channels 8 and 11 will not be affected and should not have any issues. (Not to jinx it!)

Outage Resolved
Service has been restored to all channels. Please expect occasional continued degredation on channels 2, 4, and 8. We have several trips planned to both Black and Shaffer mountain with repairs to resolve this. We will update you further as we have news.
Please continue to reach out to us if you're experiencing any continued issues apart from channels mentioned above. Thank you!

Update to the Update
I was finally able to make it up to Black Mtn today. I identified the damaged parts, made a trip to acquire those parts, and will be trying to make it back up to Black tomorrow to replace said parts. Unfortunately, the weather conditions this afternoon / evening will not be conducive to being up on the tower alone on the top of that mountain. That's why the repairs will have to wait until tomorrow.
This is still only for channels 2 & 4. If you're experiencing any issues with other channels, please do continue to report that information to us. Either by phone or email. Thank you!

UPDATE on Channels
Good Afternoon, I'm sorry for the delay. I've had a busy day at work and could not get to the station immediately. I have restored services to all channels except for Channels 2 & 4. It looks like during the power surge / outage late last night, our UPS systems didn't keep our equipment online properly and a lot of them went "dumb". I've had to power cycle and reformat some of their configurations.
If you're still not receiving most channels, please do another channel scan.
As for channels 2 & 4, we still don't have receive on Black for those two. I've tried everything I can with remote troubleshooting to no avail. Unfortunately, I cannot get to Black until sometime tomorrow. We will do everything we can to get those channels restored at that time.
Thank you.

VHF Receive is Down
Good Morning,
Channels 2 and 4 are down again. Upon investigation we have found that our VHF receive antenna on Black is not receiving any signals from Reno. We are trying to get up to Black as soon as we can, but until we can, channels 2 and 4 will be down for both Shaffer and Black customers.

Saturday Maintenance Post-Mortem
**All channels have been restored. You may have to rescan your receiver for some channels to resume coverage**
Well, it's been an extremely long day and we apologize for the prolonged outage on the affected channels. We didn't quite win the war, but we won some battles. After a very long effort of growing pains and obstacles while installing the upgrades, we faced some fatal incompatibilities with our MUX equipment, which serves our Black customers. Rather than leave them without channels 2 and 4 entirely, I've reverted some of the upgrades for the time being.
It's not all lost though. We've saved 40 mbps of bandwidth on our already taxed microwave link. It's not the ultimate fix for the issues we've been having, but it does provide us some extra breathing room which is nice. I also got a lot of very beneficial troubleshooting done on our microwave link and we have a plan of attack for that.
I also replaced the failing equipment for channel 11 on Black. So, both Shaffer and Black customers should no longer experience that terrible audio bug that was happening. If you continue to experience any issues on channel 11, please let us know.
There has been no change to channel 8 at this time. Everything I tried today was unsuccessful, but as a result, I've devised a plan on how to resolve it moving forward. The parts are ordered and they're not coming from Canada, nor do they need to be engineered. So that fix should be taking place soon, hopefully next weekend.
All in all, we did make some ground. Unfortunately, you'll still experience some degradation on channels 2, 4 and 8. Although you should experience less degradation on channels 2 and 4 for now. Passing weather events will still likely give these channels some issues.
I'm sure I sound like a broken record at this point, but we do sincerely appreciate your extended patience during this time. Although the time frame may not always reflect it, we truly are working as hard as possible to navigate these issues and bring a permanent fix.
Thank you.

Planned Channel Outage: Part 2
We were able to get ahold of our much needed technical support to iron out the kinks in our new systems. Our assets are ready (for real this time) and we will be installing the upgrades this Saturday, August 23rd. Same info applies as down below. Channels 2, 4 and 8 will be down for an extended amount of time as we execute the upgrades across both mountain tops. Thank you again for your continued patience.
